Happy Birthday Ronald Reagan!

Today marked the centennial of Ronald Reagan's birth. He was born in 1911 in Illinois. He was a movie star, Governor of California and also the 40th President of the United States. Sadly, he passed away in 2004 at the age of 93.

This year the United States Post Office decided to release a stamp to commemorate his centennial. This is however, not the first stamp issued that featured the late President. The first stamp (pictured below) was issued in 2005 with a face value of 37 cents.

However, in 2006 the postage on a first class letter increased to 39 cents. Which caused the USPS to release a statement saying the Ronald Reagan stamp would be re-released with a face value of 39 cents.

And as most reading this blog probably already know...the USPS is releasing another stamp this year with Ronald Reagan as a subject. He will be the first president to appear on a Forever stamp. The stamp was designed by Bart Forbes as an oil wash on canvas. This stamp will release on February 10th.

So, I don't know about anyone else, but I have already pre-ordered my Ronald Reagan stamps along with a First Day Cover (FDC) and a Digital Postmark. (And yes..I am aware that makes me a bit nutty.)
