Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Today would have been Dr. Seuss' 108th birthday. Crazy huh? We celebrate it every year at the library, but I never would have imagined that he would be that old. I am not sure why. Haha

That stamp was released in 2004 and is a lovely one. I wonder why I never knew about it. For those who don't know I have a slight obsession with Dr Seuss. I have lots of the book. The oldest being a 1960s copy of If I Ran A Zoo. I also have lots of Dr Seuss stuffed things, my most recent addition was the Lorax, though that has been quite a while ago.

This wasn't meant to be a long post. I was more curious as to which (if any) Seuss books are your favorites?

  4. Bartholomew and the Ooblek was one I checked out of the library many, many times growing up. I loved the slightly creepy royal magicians and their mysterious ways, the king getting his comeuppance, and the whole idea of a new kind of weather. I think I secretly wanted to slip into the world and, like Bartholomew, be a page who could help King Derwin do the right thing.

One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish is also high on my list. And it's hard to go wrong with The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. :)

    1. I never actually read The Grinch, but it's one of my favorite Christmas shows!

    2. If you mean the cartoon version from the 1960s (rather than the Jim Carey movie), then you've practically had the book read to you. The narration is remarkably true to the original text.

I hope you've had a great birthday, Olivia!

  8. Have you been to Seuss Landing at Islands of Adventure/Universal Studios in Orlando? Oh my goodness it is SO AMAZING! They have a few rides, no thrill rides like the rest of the park but every single little detail is Seuss. So incredibly colorful! I can't even pick a favorite thing there but one really awesome thing is a huge carousel with Dr. Seuss creatures instead of horses!!!!!!!!

I love it! Before my serious letter writing days I actually sent my mom a postcard from there...she still has it on her fridge about 10 years later!

  10. Does he like roller coasters/thrill rides? Islands of Adventure is my absolute favorite park! I think even more so than Cedar Point (which I had been dying to go to my whole life...going again soon, maybe I'll like it more this time?) Seriously though its so fun! They also just opened the Wizarding World of Harry Potter there if you're into that thing. I only saw the first 3 movies but that part of the park looks so incredibly neat. I think the best part is the OWL MAIL!!!!!!!!! They have a special postmark, sell stationery and even more exciting mail related things!

That wasn't open last time I went but the Owl Post alone makes me want to go. We have a place down there if you guys ever want a cheap vacation. It's about an hour and a half from Orlando, but a Florida vacation where you don't have to pay for lodging makes it worth the drive for a fun day at the parks! OH AND, there's an airline that flies out of Youngstown that has nonstop flights in to Orlando for as cheap as 20 bucks. Average prices are about 50-60 but I've seen as low as 19.99 quite often.

Damn, now I want to go! Tell Brad once we do Sushi we can have our double vacation date :)

  11. He loves thrill rides! Wanna know something funny? We have never gone to a theme park together. Haha. Perhaps I will drag him to Cedar Point this summer. I haven't been in a few years!

My coworkers are going to the Harry Potter Theme Park! I am super jealous, but they said they would send me owl mail. =) We should totally do a double date vacation. How awesome would that be??
