Maurice Sendak

I am sure you have all already heard this, but today Maurice Sendak passed away. The author of Where The Wild Things Are had a stroke just 4 days ago and today we received the news. It is such a shame. Sure he was a notably cranky guy, but come on...his works are classics that are sure to be enjoyed for generations.

One of the things I didn't realize about him was the lengths he would go to answer fan mail. Yes! That is what I said..he answered his fan mail. Ok, so not all of it, but look at the length he went to make this reply personalized:
Sorta makes you want to write to famous illustrators of children's books doesn't it?

  1. It's interesting because ABC family was just playing the most recent version of the where the wild things are movie this weekend.

That is such a lovely envelope. Looks like he put a lot of care into it!

  2. I want one... BTW when did the Wild Thing stamp come out...I don't remember ever seeing it. I need to find some, although by now they are probably hard to come by, especially since he has passed away.

    1. The stamp was released January 11, 2006. It was part of a series of stamps that were Favorite Children's Book Animals. The Scott number are : U.S. SCOTT #3987-94. You can locate some on Ebay, but have you ever dealt with Murph? He may have some of these stamps for sale. Let me know if you don't have his contact info and I will send you his email address. =)

  3. Oh goodness, that stamp is so cute!
