Latvia

Today I met a wonderful man who is a stamp collector. He also happens to be from Latvia, and told me all about Latvian postage. It was wonderful learning from him. I wish I could recall more of what he told me about. But he mentioned to me that the mittens featured on this stamp are extremely warm and very common there.

You never know who you will run into in the library!

  1. That's a beauty. My most recent postcard from Latvia is still on my cork board. I am going to take a photo to share with you. I just glanced at it and noticed a pleasing combo that's there.

You get to meet interesting people. :) Tell us more. How did you learn he's from Latvia? Who started the conversation? What was he like? My fingers itch with so many questions! LOL. Come on, remember more! :)

  2. Limner- You make me smile!! We started talking because he mentioned he was a stamp collector. So I told him that I have a small collection of stamps that I like, but I do not consider myself a large collector. He then was telling me that if I wanted to see some beautiful stamps..to check out Latvian ones. So I googled it and we stood there looking them over. I knew he was Latvian because he had an accent. And I put two and two together once he talked more about Latvia. He knew lots of the history of the stamps and why certain designs were used.

I really should have taken notes... Haha. Oh well..there is always next time. :)

  3. How pretty! I need to find a pen friend in Latvia so I can see some of the stamps in person. :)

  4. Gorgeous stamp. Have to agree with Jenny about getting a pen pal from Latvia to see their stamps firsthand. And the way the two girls are bundled up is almost enough to make me wish I lived somewhere that gets snow. :D ~ Jan

  7. Yes, I've seen some beautiful stamps from Latvia, I've received letters & corresponded for a time with two girls that received shoe boxes I sent through Operation Christmas Child.
