Stamp Puzzle

While thrifting last week I came upon an awesome puzzle

Pretty neat huh? Can you tell what all those little things are?
How about now?
Ok..now you must know! I swear sometimes I feel like I have philatelic radar! Or maybe my mother taught me well..how to look at every little thing. Dig in bins, under piles of stuff..look through drawers. You never know what may be lurking.

I am thinking of putting it together in the coming weeks (if I ever get caught up with the mail). My only problem is preserving it. I think it would make a nice wall piece, but I have never had much luck with glue in the past. It tends to warp the puzzle.

Anyone have suggestions?

  1. You could try a spray-on adhesive or rubber cement.

  2. Maybe you could try a light weight corrugated plastic board, (you can find them at most art supply stores), put the adhesive on the board and then invert it onto the back of the finished puzzle. Place books or other flat heavy objects on the back of the board and leave it for several days. If the puzzle is pressed between a hard surface(floor, counter, table...)and the plastic backer board while the adhesive dries it should keep it from warping. Using an adhesive that contains less water might help as well,(nix the Elmer's). I bet somewhere in the Ethernet there is a special adhesive just for gluing puzzles... :) Good luck and great find! I love the technique of using small images to create a much larger image! This puzzle would be a challenge to complete, but oh so much fun if you are a puzzle lover like I am! Have fun!

  3. Why glue it at all? You could get two pieces of plexiglass slightly bigger than the puzzle, drill two holes at the top edge of each for picture wire or fishing line. Then work the puzzle on top of one piece of plexi, center, and top with the other piece. There are special clips you can get to hold them together or I suppose you could just use big binder clips (don't be skimpy with them but keep in mind plexi can be scratched). Put some felt tabs on the backside of each corner to protect your walls and hang. Then if you decide you ever want to work the puzzle again, you can. This also works for displaying postcards.

  4. Or display it on a table top or your writing desk underneath the Plexiglass. No glue needed.

  5. You are all so amazing!! I like the idea of not glueing it..so that someday I would be able to rework the puzzle. I will probably look into StoneZebra's idea only because then it would hang. Putting it on my writing table would work..but I tend to move it a lot and I worry that I would somehow knock it off. And...*gasp*...I do my best writing in bed anyway. Haha. Thanks for all the ideas! I knew it would be helpful to post this all here. =)
